Should I handle my own advertising?

Recently I met with a potential client right here in Lexington who had invented a new product.

It’s a great product and would sell millions of units if priced and marketed correctly. But sadly, this person relied too much on their own knowledge about marketing, which is minimal at best.

The product name was terrible. They did not set aside a budget to promote the product. Instead, they only released a “viral” video on social media which was poorly done and didn’t get nearly the views they had hoped for.

So now they’re out of working capital, and stuck with thousands of units with no way to market and sell them.

The moral is this: marketing should never be an afterthought, and in most cases not something you as a business owner should handle yourself.
